About Bryan Acheampong

Bryan Acheampong is a Ghanaian politician, retired United States Air Force serviceman, and serial entrepreneur who has served as Member of Parliament for the Abetifi Constituency in the Eastern Region since January 2017. Now in his fourth parliamentary term, he is one of the more prominent figures within the New Patriotic Party's organisational wing and has held several senior ministerial positions across the Akufo-Addo administration. Born on 27 November 1972 in Suhum, Acheampong hails from Nkwatia in the Kwahu East District. He attended Achimota Primary School and then Presbyterian Boys' Secondary School, Legon, before travelling abroad for higher education. He studied at Johnson and Wales University, Georgetown University, and the University of Leicester, accumulating a bachelor's degree, three master's degrees, and completing work toward a doctorate. That combination of military service, international education, and commercial experience shaped the reputation he brought into politics. Acheampong served in the United States Air Force before returning to Ghana and establishing himself as a businessman with interests in information technology, security and intelligence consulting, hospitality, and real estate. Within the NPP, he served as Chief of Staff at party headquarters under the late chairman Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, where his strategic and logistical abilities earned him respect across the party's grassroots structures. In government, he served as Minister of State at the Ministry of the Interior from 2019 to 2020, then at the Ministry of National Security. In February 2023 he was appointed substantive Minister for Food and Agriculture, a role he held until January 2025. As MP for Abetifi, a constituency in the Kwahu highlands known for its business-oriented diaspora population, Acheampong has worked on constituency development projects aligned with local priorities around infrastructure and economic empowerment.
