Mugeez

Mugeez, born Rashid Abdul Mugeez, is a Ghanaian singer, rapper and songwriter, best known as the lead vocalist of R2Bees. He formed the duo in 2007 with his cousin Faisal Hakeem, who raps as Omar Sterling, and their mix of his melodies and Sterling's verses made them one of the most successful acts of the hiplife and afropop era. He was born in 1990 and grew up in Tema.

Two cousins from Tema

Mugeez and Sterling were raised under the same roof in Tema and went through the same primary, junior and senior secondary schools. They chose the name R2Bees, short for "Refuse To Be Broke", which summed up the hustle behind the group. Their roles settled early: Sterling handled most of the rapping, while Mugeez wrote and sang the hooks that carried the songs onto radio.

The R2Bees years

The duo released their debut album, Da Revolution, in 2009 and followed it with Da Revolution II in 2012. The second album widened their audience beyond Ghana, helped by "Kiss Your Hand" with Wizkid. At the 2013 Ghana Music Awards they won Artiste of the Year, Group of the Year, Hiplife/Hip Hop Artiste of the Year and several song awards, and they were nominated for Best International Act: Africa at the BET Awards the same year. They won Group of the Year again in 2014.

Their third album, Site 15, came out in 2019 and entered the top 10 of a Billboard chart. Since then the duo has released mostly singles and features rather than full albums.

Solo work and Extrial Music

Alongside R2Bees, Mugeez has built a busy solo career as a featured singer. He has worked with Sarkodie, Wizkid, Mr Eazi, DJ Breezy and Criss Waddle, and in 2017 he appeared with Ed Sheeran, Fuse ODG and others on "Boa Me".

In April 2019 he launched his own label, Extrial Music, to release his solo projects and develop younger artists. The singer Tecknikal was its first signing. He has continued to guest on other artists' records, including "For My Head" in 2025 and "Mirror" in 2026.

Style

His strength is melody. He sings in Twi and English and writes the hooks that carry R2Bees records, which is also why other rappers and afrobeats artists keep calling on him for a chorus.
