Nana

Nana, also known as Darkman, is the stage name of Nana Kwame Abrokwa, a Ghanaian-born German rapper and DJ born on 5 October 1968. His 1997 single Lonely went to number one in Germany and Switzerland and became one of the most successful Euro-rap songs.

Early life

He moved to Hamburg with his mother and brothers at the age of 10. "Nana" is a Ghanaian honorific rather than a first name.

Career

He started out DJing in Hamburg hip hop clubs in the early 1990s and rapped as MC Africa True. In 1994 he joined the Eurodance project Darkness, which gave him the name Darkman. In 1996 he became the first artist on the new Booya Music label. The single Darkman reached the German top 10, and Lonely spent weeks at number one. His self-titled debut album went platinum in Poland and gold in Germany and Switzerland. The more personal Father followed in 1998.

After legal problems shelved two albums, he returned in 2004 with All Doors in Flight No. 7 on his own Darkman Records, and since 2022 he has been touring Europe again.
