Efya

Efya first appeared on television as one half of a duo. She finished third with Irene Logan on the first season of Charterhouse's Stars of the Future in 2006, and the pair recorded as Irene & Jane until July 2008. Going solo, she took the Ghana Music Awards' female vocal prize several years running in the early 2010s.

Early life

She was born Jane Awindor on 10 April 1987 in Kumasi. Her mother is the filmmaker and TV host Nana Adwoa Awindor, and her stepfather, George Awindor, plays highlife and once headed NAFTI. She attended Garrison Primary School and Yaa Asantewaa Secondary School and read theatre arts and music at Legon.

Career

She signed with One Nation Entertainment in 2011 and starred in Yvonne Nelson's film Single and Married in 2012. Her mixtape T.I.N.T. followed in 2013 and her debut album, Janesis, in 2016. In May 2016 she was announced as a signee of Wizkid's Starboy Entertainment, and she featured on "Daddy Yo" from his 2017 album Sounds from the Other Side. She later signed with Jutland in London (2018), released "Mamee" with Mr Eazi and "The One" with Tiwa Savage (2020), and adopted the alias Big DraGon. After a break she returned with "Super Super" and "Jara Jara" in 2023 and "My Helper (Oluwa)" in 2024. She won Female Artist of the Year (non-Nigerian) at the 2016 Nigeria Entertainment Awards.

Business and family

In December 2019 she launched a clothing line, The Native Chic. On 14 February 2026 she married the Nigerian singer Tomi Thomas in a private ceremony at which King Promise and Mugeez performed.
