About Raymond Archer

Raymond Archer is a Ghanaian investigative journalist, intelligence specialist and anti-corruption administrator who serves as Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office, Ghana's specialised agency for combating financial and organised crime. His appointment placed one of the country's most celebrated investigative reporters at the head of the very institution whose founding law he helped to draft.

Archer first made his name in journalism, where he became one of Ghana's most decorated practitioners. As founder, editor and publisher of The Enquirer newspaper and a former editor of The Ghanaian Chronicle, he built a reputation for exposing corruption and holding the powerful to account. In 2005, at the age of twenty-nine, he became the first African and the youngest-ever recipient of the Global Gold Medal for Excellence in Journalism from the International Federation of Journalists, a landmark honour that reflected the impact of his work.

His accolades did not end there. He won the Lorenzo Natali Prize for excellence in journalism in Africa, was named Best West African Journalist by the West African Journalists Association, and received the Best Investigative Journalist in Ghana award from the Ghana Journalists Association. These distinctions marked him as a rare talent whose reporting combined rigorous investigation with public impact, and they gave him standing well beyond the borders of Ghana.

Beyond journalism, Archer developed deep expertise in national security, intelligence and risk consulting, accumulating more than fifteen years of experience across Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Since 2019 he led a covert investigative team known as the Opponent's Research Group, specialising in uncovering financial misconduct and organised crime. His connection to EOCO stretches back well over a decade, to his role as a lead United Nations consultant in drafting the Economic and Organised Crime Act of 2010, the legislation that established the agency.

Under the administration of President John Dramani Mahama, Archer was brought into EOCO as acting deputy executive director early in 2025 and was subsequently elevated to acting executive director, becoming a central figure in the government's asset-recovery and anti-graft campaign. In that capacity he has overseen high-profile investigations and enforcement actions. Bridging the worlds of investigative journalism, intelligence and law enforcement, Archer continues to pursue financial crime and corruption, applying to public office the same investigative instincts that defined his celebrated career in the press.
