Alex Apau Dadey

Alex Apau Dadey is a Ghanaian entrepreneur and the Founder and Executive Chairman of the KGL Group, a wholly Ghanaian-owned conglomerate with interests spanning fintech, logistics, agriculture, property development and commerce. He has become one of the more prominent voices in Ghana's private sector, arguing consistently that Africans must take ownership of their own economic landscape rather than ceding it to foreign capital.

Dadey was educated at Mfantsipim School in Cape Coast and holds a BSc in Administration from the University of Ghana Business School at Legon. His formative career unfolded abroad. From 1986 he worked in the United Kingdom, rising through the ranks at Gordon Richman Textiles Limited from export sales supervisor to export sales director, a role in which he managed key accounts across ten countries in Europe and the Middle East. That international grounding, which took him across roughly twenty countries in Europe and Asia, shaped his approach to trade and enterprise.

He became active in Ghana's market from the 1990s, working in trade finance and venture capital during the era of the International Monetary Fund's Structural Adjustment Programme. Over more than three decades he assembled the businesses that would become the KGL Group, positioning the conglomerate as a homegrown player in sectors often dominated by multinationals. His holdings have included ventures in lottery and gaming, technology and financial services, built with the stated ambition of creating value that endures across generations.

Dadey has used his public platform to challenge the private sector to be genuine value creators in national development rather than passive consumers of wealth. He has spoken candidly about how African fortunes too often disappear within a single generation because they are spent on cars, buildings and depreciating assets that vanish when the founder dies. His argument that family wealth should be treated as an asset class capable of building transgenerational enterprises has become a recurring theme in his interviews and conference appearances.

A philanthropist as well as an industrialist, Dadey continues to serve as executive chairman of KGL, using his profile at forums such as the Ghana CEO Summit to press for a new breed of African business leadership. His career stands as an example of a Ghanaian who built expertise in global markets before returning to invest at home, and his advocacy for economic self-determination has made him a notable figure in contemporary Ghanaian business.
