Senyo Dzamefe

Senyo Dzamefe is a Justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana, one of seven Appeal Court judges President Mahama elevated in July 2025. He was the longest-serving judge on the Court of Appeal at the time of his nomination. His family is from Agogoe Lume near Ho, and his father was a minister of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church.

Education and early career

He went to Hohoe E.P. Secondary School and Jasikan Training College, read law at the University of Ghana from 1979 and was called to the bar in 1984. He later took an MBA in a Norwegian university. He did his national service at the Attorney-General's office in Ho under Sophia Adinyira, spent some time in the United Kingdom, and in 1988 became chairman of the Tema Public Tribunal.

On the bench

When the tribunals merged with the courts in 1994 he became chairman of the Koforidua Circuit Tribunal, and in 2000 he was one of the first two tribunal chairmen made High Court judges. He sat in Sekondi, Swedru and Accra, where he presided over the court that handled serious criminal cases, and joined the Court of Appeal in 2010. He chaired the commission of inquiry into Ghana's 2014 World Cup campaign and was president of the Association of Magistrates and Judges of Ghana from 2018 to 2021.

Parliament approved his nomination to the Supreme Court in June 2025 over the objections of the Minority, which opposed all seven nominees while the Chief Justice was suspended. He was sworn in at Jubilee House on 3 July 2025 and spoke for the new justices at the ceremony. He supports Liverpool.
