About William Atuguba
William Anaam Atuguba is a retired Justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana and one of the longest-serving members in its history, sitting from 1995 to 2018.
He went to Notre Dame Seminary Senior High School in Navrongo and Tamale Secondary School, then studied at the University of Ghana and the Ghana School of Law. He was enrolled as a magistrate in 1974 and worked as a private lawyer, prosecutor and state attorney before President Rawlings appointed him to the Supreme Court in 1995. As its most senior member he acted as Chief Justice in 2016 and again in 2017, between the retirement of Georgina Wood and the swearing-in of Sophia Akuffo.
In retirement he lectures on governance and has criticised MPs for putting party loyalty above the national interest. He has seven children.
