Afia Pokua

Afia Pokua, known to radio audiences as Vim Lady, is a Ghanaian broadcaster and gender activist. She made her name as an outspoken journalist at Adom FM and has been with the Despite Media Group since 2019, presenting on Okay FM and UTV. Her strong opinions on politics and social issues keep her name in the headlines.

Early years in radio

Her career began at Afeema Radio in Koforidua. She then moved to Kasapa FM, where she produced the morning show, and on to Adom FM of the Multimedia Group, where she rose to editor and took the on-air name Vim Lady. In 2013 she tried to quit after a misunderstanding with management but stayed on until October 2019.

Despite Media

In October 2019 she resigned from Multimedia and joined UTV, owned by the Despite Media Group, where she became the face of the legal education show Mmra No Se Sen. She hosts Egyaso Gyaso on Okay FM on Monday and Friday evenings and co-hosts UTV's morning show Adekye Nsroma. She has also been described as a head of programmes for the group's radio stations.

Education

She attended Labone Senior High School and later returned to study, earning a diploma in communication studies from the Ghana Institute of Journalism in 2023 and studying law at GIMPA.

Activism and recognition

In 2018 she founded the SugarDem Ministry, a group campaigning for gender parity. She was named Media Personality of the Year at MTN Heroes of Change in 2019 and Radio Female Presenter of the Year at the RTP Awards. In May 2020 she revealed for the first time that she has a teenage son.
