Vida Akoto-Bamfo

Vida Akoto-Bamfo is a retired Justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana, where she sat from 2009 to 2019. She was born at Pokuase in the Greater Accra Region on 7 February 1949, the daughter of Alfred Kingsley Bannerman-Williams.

She went to Accra Royal School, Mfantsiman Girls' Secondary School and Aburi Girls' Secondary School, and studied law at the University of Ghana from 1972 to 1975 before the Ghana School of Law. She then worked in insurance, handling claims at British India Insurance and Zenith Assurance until 1981.

She became a district magistrate in 1981 and was one of the first magistrates at the Cocoa Affairs Court. She joined the High Court in 1991 and was seconded to The Gambia for two years as chair of its Assets Commission. She was appointed to the Court of Appeal in 1999 and to the Supreme Court by President Mills in 2009, alongside Nasiru Gbadegbe and Benjamin Teiko Aryeetey, and retired in February 2019. She was married to the late Eugene Akoto-Bamfo, a legal officer, and is a Methodist.
