Stephen Alan Brobbey

Stephen Alan Brobbey is a retired Justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana and a former Chief Justice of The Gambia.

He went to Opoku Ware School, took his law degree at the University of Ghana in 1966 and was called to the bar in 1967. After a spell in private practice and at the Council for Law Reporting, and postgraduate study in the United Kingdom, he became a district magistrate in 1972 and a circuit judge in 1979. From 1981 to 1986 he worked with the Zimbabwean judiciary as a legal consultant under the Commonwealth technical co-operation fund.

He became a High Court judge on his return, an Appeal Court judge in 1991 and a Supreme Court justice in 2002. He was Chief Justice of The Gambia from 2004 to 2006, then returned to Ghana's Supreme Court until he retired on 23 May 2012. He chaired the Judicial Service committee on automating the courts. In 2018 he became chairman of the board of EOCO and chaired the commission of inquiry into the creation of new regions, whose work led to Ghana's six new regions.
