About Nana Acheampong
Ernest Nana Acheampong, known as Owoahene and the Champion Lover Boy, is a Ghanaian highlife musician from Abuakwa in the Ashanti Region. He is one half of the Lumba Brothers with Daddy Lumba, the duo that popularised burger highlife, and the father of the singer Gyakie.
Early life
He was born in Abuakwa and led his school band in middle school. He later attended Kumasi Technical Institute.
Career
In the 1980s he moved to Germany, where he played with the Talking Drum band, and in 1987 he formed his own band. He teamed up with Daddy Lumba in 1989, and as the Lumba Brothers they released Yɛɛyɛ Aka Akwantuo Mu before splitting to pursue solo careers.
His songs include Abu Aka Mesim, Casanova, Kata W'ani Te, Nipa, Obibini Mu Obibini, Ever Ready, Odo Yarea, I Go Die 4 U, Ako Me Square and Brebre Obaahemaa, and his album Naanka Ɛbɛyɛ Dɛn is reported to hold the record for album sales in Ghana. He runs the Owoahene Studio at Suame in Kumasi, where he records as executive producer for Owoahene Music.
