Mzbel

Mzbel learned television from the inside: she edited video at Metro TV, worked as a floor manager on TV3 and hosted children's radio on GBC before she ever released a record. Her hit "16 Years" made her one of the most talked-about women in hiplife.

Early life

She was born Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah on 26 December 1979 and grew up in Jamestown, Accra. She attended Owusu Mills JHS in Mamprobi and Abuakwa State College, then trained as a bilingual secretary at the Ghana Institute of Languages. She has spoken openly about bleaching her skin as a teenager, which she said was common in Jamestown at the time.

Media work

As an intern she co-hosted Mmofra Kyepem on GBC Radio 1 and Kids on Groove on Groove FM. She later presented Smash TV on Metro TV, worked as a production assistant on TV3's Talking Drum and Goldblast, and was production manager at Apex Advertising. She began singing on sessions at Hush Hush Studios in 2002.

Music

Her albums include 16 Years, Awoso Me, Legelege, Tongues and Saucy Girl. Later releases include "She Saw Me" (2019) and "Asibolanga" and "Gamashi Life" (2022). She runs her own label, Mzbel Music, and the companies Bel Group and Bel Eye Media, and in 2022 signed a distribution deal with Ginger Global. Her stage outfits have often drawn criticism.
