About Kwame Agbodza

Kwame Governs Agbodza is a Ghanaian chartered architect and politician who has represented the Adaklu Constituency in the Volta Region in parliament for the National Democratic Congress since January 2013. A professional with deep roots in infrastructure and construction, he channelled his technical background into parliamentary advocacy on roads, transport, and physical development, before being appointed Minister for Roads and Highways in January 2025 following the NDC's return to government. Born on 22 September 1973 at Adaklu Kordiabe in the Volta Region, Agbodza studied architecture at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and continued at Westminster University and the University of East London. He holds full membership of the Royal Institute of British Architects and the Ghana Institute of Architects, and is registered with both the Architects Registration Board in the UK and the Architects Registration Council in Ghana, credentials that place him among the formally accredited built-environment professionals in Ghanaian public life. His professional practice has run alongside his parliamentary career. He founded Southworld Technical Services in 1999 and has led Architects Co-Partners since 2010 and Kay and Partners since 2012, running a suite of design and technical consultancy businesses throughout his time in parliament. In parliament, Agbodza served as Vice Chairman and later Ranking Member of the Roads and Transport Committee, making him the NDC's primary voice on infrastructure and transport policy during the Akufo-Addo years. He consistently challenged government claims about road construction mileage, scrutinising contract awards and the quality of works delivered under various road programmes. He also served as Chief Whip in parliament, a role that demonstrated his standing within the NDC caucus beyond his infrastructure brief. His appointment as Minister for Roads and Highways by President Mahama in January 2025 represented the natural culmination of his parliamentary specialism, placing him in direct executive authority over the sector he had scrutinised from the opposition benches for eight years.
