Nana Ama McBrown has been one of the most recognisable faces in Ghanaian entertainment for thirty years. Kumasi and the early years
She was born Felicity Ama Agyemang on 15 August 1977 in Kumasi, Ashanti Region. She grew up in Kumasi, which would later give her the connection to Kumawood, the Ghanaian Twi-language film industry that is centred on that city, that most of the industry's early competitors from Accra did not have. Her early film appearances in the mid-1990s established her as a natural screen presence, and the roles grew larger quickly.
From Kumawood to television

Her role on the "UTV McBrown's Kitchen" show, where she hosted cooking segments and celebrity interviews, reached an audience that her Kumawood films had not fully penetrated, specifically the middle-class Accra television viewer who had grown up watching her on cinema screens in the early 2000s.
She also hosted "United Showbiz" on UTV, a Saturday entertainment show that became one of the most-watched programmes on Ghanaian television. The hosting role demonstrated an ability to work in live broadcasting formats that not every film actress translates successfully into.
