Richard Kingson

Richard Kingson kept goal for Ghana at the 2006 and 2010 World Cups and was vice-captain of the Black Stars. He now coaches the national team's goalkeepers.

Turkey

He was born in Accra on 13 June 1978 and left for Turkey in 1996. Galatasaray signed him that December but he did not play, and he went on to represent six Turkish clubs, taking citizenship and the name Faruk Gürsoy. During a second spell at Galatasaray in 2004-05 he was banned for six months after a failed drug test. His surname is sometimes written Kingston, as his brother Laryea spells it, because of a mix-up in his documents.

England

A loan at Hammarby in Sweden attracted interest, and Birmingham City signed him in 2007. He played only once in the Premier League, and co-owner David Sullivan later called him "a complete waste of space", a remark Kingson said was unfair. His contract was cancelled in 2008, and Steve Bruce, his old Birmingham manager, took him to Wigan that September. He later played for Blackpool, who released him in 2011.
