Stephen Amankona

Stephen Amankona is a Ghanaian forward and attacking midfielder who won the Ghana Premier League Golden Boot two seasons in a row, in 2023-24 and 2024-25, with Berekum Chelsea. He had a short spell at Smouha in Egypt and now plays for Aduana FC.

Berekum Chelsea

Amankona was born on 30 March 2000 and broke into the Berekum Chelsea first team in 2016, scoring 25 league goals in his first spell at the club. That form earned him a move to Asante Kotoko in October 2021. He won the league title with Kotoko in 2021-22 but struggled to hold down a starting place.

Two Golden Boots

He returned to Berekum Chelsea in January 2023 and became the most reliable scorer in Ghana. In 2023-24 he finished as the league's top scorer with 19 goals in 29 matches. He kept the Golden Boot in 2024-25 with 15 goals, a season that included a hat-trick against Accra Lions in March 2025 and the league's Player of the Month award for that month.

Egypt

On 24 July 2025 he left Berekum Chelsea for Smouha in Alexandria on a three-year contract, joining the growing number of Ghanaian league stars moving to North Africa. He made only two league appearances in Egypt.

Back in Ghana

For the 2026-27 season he returned to the Ghana Premier League with Aduana FC, scoring four goals in his first seven league matches.
