Beverly Afaglo

Beverly Afaglo Baah was a Ghanaian actress, television presenter and entrepreneur. She was one of the familiar faces of Ghana's English-language films from the mid-2000s and later built a food business, Traffic Shawarma, with several branches. She died of cancer on 24 May 2026, four days before her 43rd birthday.

From beauty school to the screen

She was born on 28 May 1983 and traced her roots to the Volta Region. She trained as a beauty therapist at the FC Institute of Beauty Therapy and studied journalism and public relations at the Ghana Institute of Journalism. Her film career took off with Return of Beyonce (2006), followed by Crime to Christ (2007) and Girls Connection (2008), all films that helped define Ghanaian romantic drama of that era.

Film career

Her credits include Never Again, Turn Me On and The Game (all 2010), Single Six and Equatorial Escape (2011), Secret Burden (2012), About to Wed, A Northern Affair and Bachelors (2014), Brown Sugar and Sidechic Gang (2018), Aloe Vera (2020), I Hate You Too (2021) and Every Woman Has a Story (2023). She was nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role (English) at the 2010 Ghana Movie Awards.

Business

Off screen she ran Glamour Beauty Salon in Tema and founded B.A.B. Handyman Ghana, a service for plumbing, electrical and home repairs. In April 2024 she launched Traffic Shawarma as a franchise, and it grew to several outlets.

Family and death

She was married to Eugene Kwadwo Boadu Baah, the singer known as Choirmaster of the group Praye, and they had two daughters. In August 2021 a fire destroyed much of their home. Choirmaster announced her death on 24 May 2026, writing that his heart was "shattered beyond words". Reports said she had battled cancer for about two years. The National Film Authority mourned her as one of the industry's cherished talents. A first funeral was held in Laurel, Maryland, in the United States on 1 August, and the final rites took place at the forecourt of the State House in Accra on 8 August 2026, followed by a thanksgiving service at Action Chapel International, Tema, and a private burial.
