Bill Asamoah

Bill Asamoah, born William Asamoah Addo, is a Ghanaian actor and one of the best-known faces of Kumawood, the Twi-language film industry based in Kumasi. He was born in the 1970s, grew up in Ash Town, Kumasi, and broke through in the early 2000s with The Mighty One. He has since appeared in hundreds of films.

Errand boy to leading man

Asamoah did not arrive in film through drama school. He started by running errands for established actors on film sets, watching how productions worked and waiting for a chance to act. When roles came, he made the most of them.

The film that made him a national name was The Mighty One, a two-part movie that became a hit across the country.

Films

His long filmography includes Psalm 23, Evil Intent, Blood Wealth, Tyrant and The Gods Are Not To Blame. He tried producing with his own film, Sorry My Love, but has said he prefers acting to the business side of making films.

Business and the Actors Guild

Off screen he runs two companies: Okyerema Entertainment and The Boss Grooming. He also chairs the Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Actors Guild.

Back to school

On 15 April 2023 Asamoah graduated from Christian Service University College in Kumasi with a Master of Science in Monitoring and Evaluation.

Family

He is married to Marian Boakye, and the couple have three children.
