Sammy Adjei
Former Footballer (Goalkeeper)
About Sammy Adjei
Sammy Adjei was Ghana's first-choice goalkeeper in the years before the 2006 World Cup and went to that tournament as part of the Black Stars squad.
Clubs
Samuel Adjei was born in Accra on 1 September 1980. He made his name at Hearts of Oak, and on 15 September 2005 Club Africain of Tunisia paid a reported $150,000 for him. He came back to Hearts on 29 November 2008 on a one-year deal, hoping regular games would win him a national team recall under Milovan Rajevac. In July 2009 he had a trial with Maritzburg United in South Africa.
Black Stars
Richard Kingson overtook him as first choice in 2006. Adjei was still picked for the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt and for the World Cup in Germany, where he came on once when Kingson was injured. In a March 2007 friendly against Austria in Graz he was hurt in a first-half collision and taken to hospital. He was the back-up keeper at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, then quit international football, though he was later recalled for a qualifier against Congo.
