Dodzie Numekevor

Dodzie Numekevor is a Ghanaian public servant who was Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) from 26 February to 17 September 2024. His seven months in the job ended days after African football's governing body barred the Baba Yara Sports Stadium from hosting international matches.

From the High Commission to the stadiums

Before the NSA he was Public Relations Officer at the Ghana High Commission in the United Kingdom. A letter dated 26 February 2024 and signed by Nana Bediatuo Asante, Secretary to the President, named him to replace Peter Twumasi. Early reports described the appointment as an acting one.

The Deputy Director-General, Majeed Bawa, introduced him to head office and Greater Accra staff on 9 April 2024. He promised to be fair to everyone, to digitise the authority's work and fix its internet service, and to look for new ways of raising money under the Sports Act.

The Baba Yara ban

In September 2024 the Confederation of African Football withdrew its approval of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi because of the state of the pitch, leaving the Black Stars without an approved home ground. The stadium had been rented out for a church programme six days before Ghana's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola. The Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif, sent Numekevor a query over the matter.

On 17 September 2024 President Nana Akufo-Addo terminated his appointment with immediate effect. The letter gave no reason and told him to hand over to the chairman of the governing board, Seth Panwum Boyoyo. He is on the list of Directors-General of the National Sports Authority.
