London and Ghana
Nana Richard Abiona was born in London on 2 December 1988 and spent his early childhood in Ghana before returning for secondary school at Archbishop Lanfranc School in Croydon. He grew up in Mitcham, south London, where he was teased for his Ghanaian accent and turned to music to fit in, building a studio in his bedroom. He drew on American hip hop, highlife, grime, UK garage and So Solid Crew, as well as Obrafour, Reggie Rockstone and Lord Kenya. At school he rapped with a crew called 2 Gully. "Fuse" refers to his mix of styles; "ODG" stands for "Off Da Ground".
Hits
"Azonto" reached number 30 in October 2011. "Antenna" followed in August 2012, and his first EP, The Buzz, came out that September. He won four Urban Music Awards in 2013, and "Million Pound Girl (Badder Than Bad)" reached number 5 in early 2014. In 2016 he featured on Major Lazer's "Light It Up" remix, which made the US Billboard Hot 100.
