Early life and modelling
She was born and raised in Accra, the eldest of nine children, and attended Accra High School. She began in entertainment as a model, and in 1990 won the Miss Model of the World pageant, representing Ghana on an international stage and becoming a familiar face in television commercials.

She moved from modelling into acting, making her debut in the stage production Theatre Mirrors before a screen career that would take in more than fifty films.
