Desmond Koney

Desmond Koney is a Ghanaian engineer and agribusiness entrepreneur, the co-founder and chief executive of Complete Farmer, an Accra-based agricultural trading company. Founded in 2017, the business connects smallholder farmers with international buyers and has grown into one of the most closely watched agritech companies in West Africa.

From engineering to farming

Koney trained as a mechanical engineer and studied in the Netherlands. Although his father was a pineapple farmer, he originally set his sights on the sciences and once dreamed of engineering work at NASA. After his father's death he inherited the family pineapple farm outside Accra, and running it showed him the problems smallholders face every season: unreliable buyers, weak access to markets and very little finance.

Complete Farmer

Complete Farmer was built to close those gaps. Its digital platform links farmers with domestic and international buyers, and the company now works with more than 72,000 farmers across Ghana and Togo. Its produce reaches major European retailers, with supermarket chains such as Aldi and Lidl among the buyers served through its supply chain. Forbes Africa has profiled the business as an example of an African agritech firm completing the chain from farm to shelf.

Endeavor selection

In August 2026 Koney was selected into the global Endeavor entrepreneur network after a multi-stage review that ended at Endeavor's International Selection Panel in Athens. The selection, made through Endeavor Nigeria alongside 27 other founders, made Complete Farmer the first Ghanaian company to join the network, a milestone for Ghana's startup scene.
