Elikem Tamaklo

Dr Elikem Tamaklo is a Ghanaian physician and healthcare executive who led Nyaho Medical Centre in Accra through its most significant period of modernisation. He served as the hospital's Managing Director from April 2015 to 2023 and is now Executive Chairman and Chief Transformation Officer of Nyaho Healthcare Limited.

Medical training

Tamaklo studied medicine at St George's Hospital Medical School in London, graduating in 2009, and earned a diploma in tropical medicine and hygiene from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. He later added a postgraduate certificate in clinical teaching from Edge Hill University and a master certificate in healthcare leadership from Cornell University. Before returning home he worked in several hospitals in the north west of England, with a focus on emergency medicine.

Leading Nyaho

Nyaho Medical Centre is a family-founded private hospital that marked its 50th anniversary under his leadership. From 2015 he drove the digital transformation of the hospital and secured its accreditation by the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons to train family physicians. The centre grew to about 250 full-time staff and close to 50 specialists, serving around 90,000 patients a year.

Recognition

His work has earned the Ghana Entrepreneurs Foundation Young Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2015 and the AABLA Young Business Leader of the Year award in 2018. He has spoken about private-sector healthcare standards with the Oxford Business Group and on the YPO podcast, and remains one of the most visible voices on building quality private healthcare in Ghana.
