Esi Tawia Addo-Ashong

Esi Tawia Addo-Ashong is a Ghanaian lawyer and the Chair of the board of Stanbic Bank Ghana. She is Managing Partner of Ashong Benjamin and Associates, an Accra law firm, and spent seven years as head of legal and government relations at Newmont's Ghana gold operations.

Law and early career

She read law and political science at the University of Ghana and was called to the Ghana Bar in 1990, having started at Sey and Co. in 1989. She moved to Integrity Financial Services in 1994 and then to Deloitte and Touche, where she managed legal services and ran Dehands Services, the firm's company secretarial business.

SIC and Newmont

In 2002 she became Head of Legal and Company Secretary at SIC Insurance. From 2007 to 2014 she was Director of Legal and Government Relations at Newmont Ghana Gold, working on licensing, regulation and the negotiation of mining agreements. She has also designed anti-corruption programmes for companies that must comply with the UK Bribery Act, the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and Ghanaian law.

Stanbic Bank

Addo-Ashong joined the Stanbic Bank Ghana board on 26 November 2020 and was appointed its chair on 11 March 2022. She is also a director of New Horizon Special School in Accra. Avance Media named her among its 2026 Top 100 Ghana's Women Board Directors.
