Lydia Forson

Lydia Forson won the 2010 Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role. She also writes and produces, and won the Ghana Movie Awards prize for best screenplay in 2012.

Kentucky and Kumasi

She was born in Mankessim on 24 October 1984 and began school at Wilmore Elementary in Kentucky. The family came back to Ghana when she was nine, and she went on to Akosombo International School and St. Louis Secondary School in Kumasi. She graduated from the University of Ghana in English and information studies.

Screen

After small parts in Hotel St. James (2005) and Run Baby Run (2006), the series Different Shades of Blue (2007) and third place on Nigeria's The Next Movie Star, she got her first lead in Shirley Frimpong-Manso's Scorned (2008), which earned an AMAA nomination for best upcoming actress. The Perfect Picture and A Sting in a Tale followed in 2009. She co-wrote and starred in the comedy Masquerades (2011) and wrote and produced A Letter From Adam (2014). Other films include Phone Swap (2012), Kamara's Tree (2013), Isoken and Keteke (2017), Sidechic Gang (2018), Borga (2021) and For Love and Country (2025), and she appeared in South Africa's Scandal. The AMVCAs named her best supporting actress in 2018.
