Majid Michel

Majid Michel won Best Actor at the 2012 Africa Movie Academy Awards for playing a dictator in Somewhere in Africa. A few years later he was telling interviewers he would no longer kiss on screen and was preaching as a guest minister.

Early life

He was born on 22 September 1980 in Cantonments, Accra, to a Ghanaian mother and a Ghanaian-born father of Lebanese descent, one of ten children. He attended St. Theresa's Primary School and Mfantsipim School, where he joined the drama club, and worked as a model before acting.

Career

His first major TV role was in Things We Do for Love, and his film debut, Divine Love (2004), paired him with Jackie Appiah and Van Vicker. Agony of Christ (2008) earned seven AMAA nominations. Working across Ghana and Nigeria, he starred in Emerald (2009) with Genevieve Nnaji, Guilty Pleasures (2009), The Game (2010), House of Gold (2013), 30 Days in Atlanta (2014), Being Mrs Elliot (2014), Road to Yesterday (2015) and Shattered Lives (2016). In late 2010 he took a break from Nollywood after reported threats.

Faith and family

A born-again Christian, he has spoken publicly about faith, tithing and his decision in 2017 to stop on-screen kissing. He married Virna Michel around 2005, renewed their vows in 2015, and they have three children.
