Nana Yaw Konadu

Nana Yaw Konadu won world titles at two weights: the WBC super flyweight belt in 1989 and the WBA bantamweight crown twice, in 1996 and 1997.

First title

Nana Yaw Konadu Yeboah was born on 15 February 1964 and turned professional on 5 May 1985. In his 15th fight he beat former champion Cesar Polanco for the WBC International super flyweight title. On 7 November 1989 he outpointed two-time champion Gilberto Roman to become WBC and lineal super flyweight champion. He lost the belt in his first defence to Sung Kil Moon, a brutal fight with knockdowns on both sides that was stopped in the ninth after a clash of heads, and Moon knocked him out in a 1991 rematch.

Bantamweight

He then won 15 fights in a row, beating Juan Polo Perez, Victor Rabanales and Abraham Torres. On 28 January 1996 he stopped Veeraphol Sahaprom to take the WBA bantamweight title. Daorung Chuvatana took it from him on a technical decision, but Konadu won it back in a rematch the next year, defended it once, and lost to Johnny Tapia in 1998. He beat Hector Acero Sanchez before retiring in 2001 after a stoppage loss to Daniel Seda. He lives with his family in New Dormaa, Sunyani.
