About Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II
Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II is the Paramount Chief of the Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Area and the President of the National House of Chiefs, the body that speaks for Ghana's traditional rulers at the national level. He was first elected to the presidency in 2020 and re-elected in November 2024.
Background
He was born in 1950 in what was then the Western Region. An accountant by training, he studied business before taking up his stool. Sefwi Anhwiaso lies in the gold and cocoa country of the upper Western Region, which became part of the new Western North Region in 2019.
Western Region House of Chiefs
In November 2016 his fellow paramount chiefs elected him President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs, winning seven of the eleven votes cast. In the role he acted as the chief mediator in disputes between traditional rulers in the region. In May 2017 President Akufo-Addo appointed him to the board of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation.
National House of Chiefs
On 12 November 2020 he was elected President of the National House of Chiefs, defeating the incumbent, Togbe Afede XIV, by 59 votes to 25. He ran again on 22 November 2024 and won 42 votes to the 30 for the Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II. Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II was elected vice president at the same sitting. After taking the oath, Ogyeahoho called for unity in the House and for peaceful conduct in the December 2024 general election.
As head of the House he sits on the Council of State by virtue of the office. Avance Media included him on its inaugural Top 100 Ghanaians Powerlist in 2025.
