Owusu Bempah

Isaac Owusu Bempah is a Ghanaian charismatic pastor and the founder of Glorious Word Power Ministries International in Accra. He is best known outside his church for prophecies about elections and public figures, and for his close association with the New Patriotic Party, which he backed during the Akufo-Addo years.

Ministry

Owusu Bempah built Glorious Word Power Ministries into one of the better-known charismatic churches in Accra, with a large following in the diaspora through broadcasts and social media. He styles himself Apostle and uses the title Dr. His sermons and press appearances often turn to politics, and his predictions about elections, politicians and celebrities are widely reported in the Ghanaian press.

The 2021 arrest

In September 2021 police went to arrest him over a video in which he was alleged to have threatened the life of Nana Agradaa, a former fetish priestess who had recently announced her conversion to Christianity. Police said he and members of his church attacked the officers. He was arrested with several church members and charged with threat of death and offensive conduct conducive to a breach of the peace. On 13 September 2021 an Accra Circuit Court refused them bail and remanded them in police custody. He was re-arrested soon after on further charges, and the police later amended the charges against him and four others.

Recent controversy

In 2026 he drew criticism for predicting that a Kessben FM presenter would not live to see the 2028 elections. On 18 August 2026 Alfred Ababio Kumi, an NPP youth organiser aspirant known as Adenta Kumi, petitioned the Inspector-General of Police to act against Owusu Bempah and another preacher, Prophet Isaac Nyarko, accusing them of statements meant to cause fear and alarm.
