About Stephen Yenusom Wengam
Reverend Dr Stephen Yenusom Wengam is a Ghanaian clergyman who serves as the General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, leading one of the country's major Pentecostal denominations. A pastor, church administrator and public servant, he has become a prominent figure in Ghanaian Christianity and in national institutions of governance.
Wengam's ministry is closely associated with Cedar Mountain Chapel in East Legon, Accra, which he founded and has led as senior pastor since October 2010. Through that congregation he built a reputation as a capable pastor and church builder, ministering to a growing urban membership and developing the leadership skills that would later position him for national denominational office. His pastoral work laid the foundation for his rise within the Assemblies of God structure.
He was elected General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana in 2022 and inducted into the office in early 2023, taking on responsibility for the administration and spiritual direction of the denomination across the country. Around fifty years old at the time of his induction, he brought pastoral experience and organisational vision to the role. In August 2026 he was re-elected to the position, securing nearly ninety per cent of the votes cast at the church's biennial general council meeting held at Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region, a resounding endorsement of his leadership.
Wengam's influence extends well beyond his own denomination. He is a Cabinet member of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship, a global body with tens of millions of members, and serves as chairman of that organisation's Church Health Commission, giving him a role in the international governance of the movement. His standing within worldwide Pentecostalism reflects the reach and significance of the Ghanaian church he leads.
He has also contributed to public life through service on state bodies, including as chairman of the Governing Council of the Ghana Immigration Service and formerly as chairman of the Ghana Prisons Service Council, roles that placed him at the intersection of faith and national institutions. Married to Monica Wengam since 2000 and a father of two, he combines pastoral ministry, denominational leadership and public service. As General Superintendent, Wengam continues to guide the Assemblies of God, Ghana while representing the church on the global stage and contributing to conversations on morality, governance and social development in the country.
