Wanlov the Kubolor

Wanlov the Kubolor and his long-time partner M3NSA, as FOKN Bois, made Coz Ov Moni in 2010, billed as the first Pidgin musical film. His stage name comes from a Ga word for a truant or wanderer.

Two cultures

Emmanuel Owusu-Bonsu was born on 8 September 1980 to a Ghanaian father and a Romanian mother, and the family moved to Ghana before he turned one. Both parents loved music and art. At Adisadel College he started rapping with friends on the Cape Coast and Takoradi circuit and met M3NSA. In 2000 he went to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Texas, but left after two years of computer science and business studies to focus on music. His sister is the presenter and singer Deborah Owusu-Bonsu.

Records

He came home in 2007 and released Green Card, followed by Yellow Card (2010), Brown Card: African Gypsy (2012) and Orange Card: Fruitopian Raps (2017). With FOKN Bois he made Coz Ov Moni 2 (2013), FOKN Wit Ewe (2012), FOKN Ode to Ghana (2016) and Afrobeats LOL (2019). He has recorded with Gyedu-Blay Ambolley and Reggie Rockstone. His song "Human Being" won the 2006 WCS International Song Contest.

Causes

He has campaigned for OAfrica, a charity for children living away from home, and for environmental causes in Ghana.
