Wendy Shay

Wendy Shay's first single, "Uber Driver", came out on 1 June 2018, a few months after Rufftown Records signed her following the death of its star, Ebony Reigns. Within a year she was Discovery of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards.

Early life

She was born Wendy Asiamah Addo on 20 February 1996 in Accra; her parents come from Obo in Kwahu. Her father died when she was about four. Her early schooling was in Accra, at Morning Star and then St Martin de Porres, before the family settled in Stuttgart, Germany, where she finished school, attended music school and trained in nursing.

Music

Bullet, the head of Rufftown, introduced her in January 2018. "Uber Driver" was followed the same year by "Bedroom Commando", "Astalavista" and "Psalm 35" with Kuami Eugene and Sarkodie. Her albums are Shay On You (2019), Shayning Star (2021) and Enigma (2022), and later singles include "Habibi" and "African Money" (2023), "Holy Father" with Ras Kuuku (2024) and "Crazy Love" (2025). She was 3Music Breakthrough Act of the Year in 2019.

Other roles

She has been a brand ambassador for the Youth Employment Agency; in July 2019 reports that she had been dropped were contradicted the same day by the agency. In December 2019 she was enstooled Ahenemba Hemaa of Gomoa Afransi, with the stool name Queen Ewurabena Ofosuhemaa Shay I. In 2022 police in Belgium stopped her performance at a Ghanaian culture festival.
