Wendy Shay

Wendy Shay is one of the most successful female pop stars of Ghana's current era, a singer who traded a nursing career in Germany for the stage and rose quickly to become one of the country's most-streamed female artists.

Early life

She was born Wendy Asiamah Addo on 20 February 1996 in Accra, to parents from Kwahu in the Eastern Region. After losing her father at the age of four, she moved with her siblings to Stuttgart, Germany, where she was educated and trained professionally as a nurse and midwife before music took over.

Breakthrough

Her career changed in January 2018 when she was introduced to Bullet, the manager of RuffTown Records, and signed to the label, the same outfit that had launched the late Ebony Reigns. She emerged with a confident, catchy pop-Afrobeats sound and made an immediate impact.

Career and awards

She was named Discovery of the Year at the 2018 Ghana Music Awards, and followed with a stream of hits that kept her among the country's most-played female artists. She has collected multiple awards across the region, and in 2021 was listed among the Top 30 Most Influential Women in Music.
