Demzy Baye

Demzy Baye, born Derrick Asare Agyepong on 19 May 1997, is a Ghanaian dancer, choreographer and social media personality, one of the most recognisable faces of the Dance With A Purpose (DWP) Academy.

From nursing to dance

Demzy grew up in a small town in the Volta Region and trained as a nurse, graduating in 2019. By then dance had already taken hold: in 2018 he won the Wosa Dance Challenge and joined DWP Academy, and he went on to leave a stable profession to dance full time.

The Baye step

At DWP he created the Baye dance step, which went viral and became his signature. His Kings of Dance challenges, set to songs such as Yeshua and Darling Jesus, spread widely online. His fans call themselves the Lidelle Movement Family, or LMF Citizens, with Demzy as their "president", and his videos have passed 77 million views on YouTube. Nigerian newspaper ThisDay has described him as a rising global dance sensation.

Recognition

In 2023 he won Best Dance Duel at the Ghana Dance Awards, alongside Endurance Grand, and Best TikTok Influencer at the RTP Awards. Beyond dancing, he works as a choreographer, presenter, producer and hype man.
