Jemilat Jawulaa Mahamah is the chair of the governing board of the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA), the regulator responsible for shipping safety, security and the development of Ghana's maritime sector.

The Transport Minister, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, inaugurated the GMA board under her chairmanship on 25 June 2025, alongside new boards for the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority and Metro Mass Transit. The minister urged the boards to work within their legal mandates and not overreach into management. The GMA board's members include the Director-General, Dr Kamal-Deen Ali, naval and army officers, and academics including Professor Ransford Gyampo.
Under her leadership the board has toured the Authority's operations and met regional maritime stakeholders to strengthen its oversight.
Recognition
Avance Media named her among its 2026 Top 100 Ghana's Women Board Directors for her role as chair of the GMA.
