Joseph Agbeko

Joseph "King Kong" Agbeko won the IBF bantamweight title twice. He took it from Luis Alberto Perez in September 2007, lost it to Yonnhy Perez in October 2009, and won it back from Perez in a rematch in Tacoma in December 2010.

Career

He was born on 22 March 1980. Before his world titles he held the Commonwealth bantamweight belt from 2004 to 2006. As champion he beat William Gonzalez in December 2008, after more than a year out, and the former two-weight champion Vic Darchinyan in July 2009.

His December 2010 win over Perez came in the semi-final of Showtime's bantamweight tournament. In the final against Abner Mares in Las Vegas in August 2011, Agbeko was hit with repeated low blows without the referee, Russell Mora, taking a point, and lost the decision; Showtime's own commentators criticised the officiating. He later held the IBO bantamweight title in 2013 and challenged for a super-bantamweight world title that year.
