Early life

He was born Jafari Ferguson on 28 November 1972. Born in Liberia and raised partly in Ghana and Nigeria, he moved to the United States as a teenager, settling in Philadelphia, the city where his comedy career would begin.

Breakthrough

He started performing stand-up at Philadelphia clubs in 1992, but his national break came in 2000 with the film Next Friday, in which his turn as an angry African neighbour became instantly quotable.
