About Nana Tea

James Annor Tetteh, widely known as Nana Tea, is a Ghanaian social media influencer, philanthropist, and Water Quality Analyst whose viral acts of kindness have made him one of the most recognisable faces of grassroots charity in Ghana.

Born in Asesewa in the Eastern Region, Tetteh grew up the second of six children in a household that knew genuine hardship. His mother died when he was 14, and he and his siblings moved to Odumase Krobo to live with a maternal uncle. To put himself through school, he hawked ice water, corn, and cassava dough on the streets before earning an aggregate of 10 in his 2004 BECE. He went on to study at Manya Krobo Senior High School and later completed an HND in Science Laboratory Technology at Accra Technical University between 2007 and 2010. After national service at the Sege Health Centre under the Ghana Health Service, he moved into formal employment in 2014.

His path into philanthropy began in 2020, the year he married Barbara Amoah, whom he had met on Facebook. While visiting her village in the Central Region, he photographed a small boy carrying firewood barefoot through the bush. The image stirred memories of his own childhood in Asesewa, and his post about it drew an outpouring of support from followers. That moment became the seed of a broader mission: finding people in difficulty, telling their stories with photographs and short videos, and rallying his online community to act.

The approach quickly gained traction. Through his Facebook and Instagram platforms he raised GH¢14,000 for a brilliant but needy girl who had won admission to St Roses Senior High School yet could not afford basic supplies. He led blood donation drives, assisted persons with disabilities, supported single mothers, and helped a former drug addict secure a place to study law at the University of Ghana. He also reached beyond Ghana's borders, rescuing a Nigerian man from drug addiction after followers donated toward rehabilitation.

In 2025, MTN Ghana named him its Digital Hero of Change at the annual MTN Heroes of Change ceremony, awarding him GHS 30,000. He immediately redirected the prize money into transforming the life of a physically challenged man he had profiled online. That gesture captured in one act what the Nana Tea brand stands for: resources flow through him straight back to the people who need them. He is a father of twins and remains based in Accra.
