About Quamina MP
Quamina MP is one of the most distinctive rappers of Ghana's new generation, an artist who fuses trap beats with African rhythms and helped power the wave of talent that emerged from the Ground Up Chale collective.
Early life
He was born Emmanuel Kwamina Amonoo on 11 September 1993 in Takoradi, and grew up in Mankessim. He attended St Mary's Senior High School and later enrolled at university, but had to drop out for financial reasons, a setback that pushed him fully toward music.
Breakthrough
He taught himself to make beats around 2014, and his big break came in 2017 when he linked up with Ground Up Chale, the same Tema-based platform that launched Kwesi Arthur. His song Wiase Y3d3 introduced him to a wide audience and established his blend of trap and Afrobeats.
Career
He built on that momentum with a run of singles and high-profile collaborations, developing a reputation for catchy, energetic music and a distinctive delivery that set him apart in a crowded scene. His work helped cement Ground Up Chale as one of the most important talent hubs in Ghanaian music.
Standing
With his fusion of global trap and local rhythm, Quamina MP has become one of the recognisable voices of the DIY generation of Ghanaian artists, an inventive rapper who turned a self-taught start into a genuine career.
