Stephen Ato Frimpong

Stephen Ato Frimpong is a Ghanaian accountant and corporate governance expert who became Board Chair of Absa Bank Ghana Limited on 1 October 2026. He succeeded Frances Adu-Mante, whose tenure ended on 30 September 2026.

Career

Frimpong spent most of his career in the United States. Before retiring in 2020 he was Vice President and Chief Audit Executive at Kimberly-Clark Corporation, where he led the company's global internal audit function. His fields include corporate governance, audit, risk management, compliance, fraud investigations, cybersecurity and data privacy.

Absa Bank Ghana

He joined the Absa Bank Ghana board as an Independent Non-Executive Director in March 2021. On the board he chaired the Audit Committee and the Social, Sustainability and Ethics Committee, chaired the Risk Committee earlier, and sat on the Remuneration Committee and the IT, Cybersecurity and Payment Systems Committee before his elevation to chair.

Education

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Cape Coast and a Master of Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin, and is both a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Management Accountant.
