Wayoosi

Joseph Nana Osei Kofi, known across Ghana simply as Wayoosi, is one of Kumawood's most enduring comedic performers. Born in 1975, he is among the shorter-statured actors who helped define the Kumasi-based film industry's distinctive comic style. His career began not in front of a camera but as a painter, and for much of his early adult life acting held no particular appeal.

That changed when filmmaker Mikki Osei Berko, known professionally as Master Richard, persuaded him to join the TV series Dada Boat. It was on that production that he acquired the nickname Wayoosi, a name that would follow him throughout his career. His first film was Awiee in 2003, and from that point he became a fixture in Kumawood productions.

After completing his elementary education, Wayoosi attended Kings International School in Kumasi, near the airport, and later graduated from the College of Arts at the Cabin in Kumasi. This arts background informed the range he brought to his performances, allowing him to move beyond pure slapstick into more layered characterisations.

Beyond acting, Wayoosi has ventured into music, releasing tracks that blend humor and social commentary. His YouTube channel, Wayoosi TV, hosts a catalogue of his films and music videos. He is active on Instagram at @official.wayoosi, where he connects with fans and shares personal updates.

In recent years, Wayoosi has spoken publicly about a serious battle with kidney disease, a health crisis that brought an outpouring of support from colleagues and fans. Lord Kenya was among those who stood by him during his illness. He has recovered and remains active in the industry, widely celebrated as one of the brightest and most enduring comedic talents Ghana's film sector has produced.
