About Christian Tetteh Yohuno

Christian Tetteh Yohuno is a senior Ghanaian police officer who serves as the Inspector General of Police, the highest office in the Ghana Police Service. A Commissioner of Police by rank, he was appointed to lead the service by President John Dramani Mahama on 13 March 2025, succeeding Dr George Akuffo Dampare, and he took charge after more than four decades of law enforcement service.

Yohuno completed his secondary education at Presbyterian Boys' Senior High School and Okuapemman School before pursuing undergraduate studies at the University of Ghana, Legon. He later earned an Executive MBA in Project Management from the University of Professional Studies, Accra, combining operational policing experience with formal management training. His long career has taken him through many of the most demanding commands in the service.

Over the course of his career he held a succession of senior leadership positions. In 2007 he was appointed Divisional Commander for Accra Central and subsequently Regional Operations Commander for the Accra Metropolis. Between 2013 and 2015 he served as Accra Regional Commander, after which he became Director-General of the Police Intelligence directorate and later Director-General of the Motor Traffic and Transport Directorate. Before his elevation to the top job he served as Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Operations, a role that placed him at the centre of national policing strategy.

Yohuno's service has also carried an international dimension. He participated in United Nations peacekeeping missions in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in East Timor, gaining experience in post-conflict policing and international cooperation. His record has been recognised with national honours, including the State Honour of the Grand Medal awarded in 2011 for his contribution to combating armed robbery, reflecting his reputation as an operationally focused officer.

As Inspector General he has spoken of a mission to transform the police service, emphasising professionalism, discipline and improved relations between officers and the communities they serve. With four decades of institutional knowledge behind him, Yohuno leads the Ghana Police Service at a moment when public expectations of accountable and effective policing remain high.
