About Daniel McKorley

Daniel Asante McKorley, widely known as McDan, was born on 17 June 1971 in Labadi, a fishing and trading community on the Atlantic coast of Accra. He grew up in modest circumstances and worked various jobs in his youth, including selling kerosene, working as a driver's mate, and labouring on construction sites. He enrolled at the University of Ghana after completing secondary school but withdrew due to an inability to pay tuition fees. He would return to formal education roughly fifteen years later to complete his degree, but the interruption did not slow his commercial ambitions. In November 1999, McKorley founded McDan Shipping Company with minimal capital and a single employee. Based in Accra with early branches in Tema and Takoradi, the company began as a freight forwarding and customs clearance operation. Through membership in international freight networks including Universal Freight Organization, Cross Trades, and World Cargo Alliance, McDan Shipping built connectivity to over 2,400 ports worldwide, positioning itself as a credible player in West African maritime logistics. From that foundation, McKorley expanded the McDan Group of Companies into one of Ghana's most diversified private conglomerates. The group's activities span shipping and freight forwarding, aviation infrastructure, logistics, salt mining and processing through the ElectroChem salt operations at Ada, real estate, and civil construction. In 2022 McDan Aviation opened Ghana's first private jet terminal at Kotoka International Airport, a facility McKorley developed by rehabilitating the previously abandoned Terminal One building into a modern fixed-base operation for private and charter aviation. At the Port of Tema, McDan Group holds interests in port and logistics operations that give the company a footprint across Ghana's key trade gateways. McKorley has publicly stated that his net worth has surpassed one billion dollars, a figure consistent with Ghanaian wealth rankings that place him among the country's wealthiest individuals. The scale of his holdings, including the Kotoka private terminal, ElectroChem salt operations, shipping and logistics assets, and substantial real estate, support assessments at that level. His philanthropic work is concentrated in Ga-Adangbe communities, funding education, youth development, and cultural initiatives.
