About Dr Cryme
Dr Cryme, born Darlington Agyekum in Tema in 1986, is a rapper and one of the early faces of twipop. The name stands for Doctor of Creative Rhymes You Most Enjoy. He has also worked as a TV presenter and runs his own label, Twipop Recordz.
Early life and education
He attended Datus School, then ASUTECH in Cape Coast and SOTECH in Somanya, and later earned a certificate in broadcast journalism from the Ghana Institute of Journalism.
Career
He first got noticed on Kasahare Level, the Adom FM rap battle that also gave early exposure to Sarkodie and Stay Jay. Ejams Records signed him in 2010, and his first hit, Kill Me Shy, came out that year. It won Hiplife Song of the Year at the 2012 Ghana Music Awards, where he was also nominated for Best New Artiste, Songwriter of the Year and Hiplife/Hip Hop Artiste of the Year.
His debut album Finally Finally followed, and his second, Showtime, came in February 2018 with 20 tracks, including Koko Sakora featuring Sarkodie. In 2011 he hosted the Top 10 Videos show on 4syte TV and became a brand ambassador for Samsung Ghana.
