E.L is one of the most respected and versatile figures in Ghanaian music, a rapper, singer and producer whose self-appointed title, BAR, stands for Best African Rapper, a claim his lyricism and production have often backed up.

Early life

He was born Elom Adablah on 28 June 1989 and grew up in Dansoman, a suburb of Accra. He discovered music while a student at Presbyterian Boys Secondary School, Legon, and went on to become a producer as well as a performer, crafting beats for others before stepping to the microphone himself.

Career

His debut album Something Else arrived in 2012, but it is his BAR mixtape series, released annually, that cemented his reputation among hip-hop purists as one of the country's finest lyricists. Songs like Kaalu, Auntie Martha, Koko and Obuu Mo became staples, blending street-savvy rap with catchy Afrobeats hooks.

Awards

He was named Artiste of the Year and Hiplife/Hip-hop Artiste of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards, a rare double that recognised both his commercial appeal and his standing among the rap community.
