Eric Kwabena Nyamekye

Apostle Eric Kwabena Nyamekye is a Ghanaian clergyman who serves as the Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, one of the largest and most influential Christian denominations in Ghana and across the African continent. Born on 21 October 1965 at Asokore in the Ashanti Region, he leads a church whose reach extends into scores of nations worldwide.

Nyamekye completed his secondary education at Tema Secondary School in 1983 and went on to Nyankpala Agricultural College in the Northern Region, obtaining a certificate in general agriculture in 1986. He worked for three years with the Technology Consultancy Centre at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi before answering a call to full-time ministry with The Church of Pentecost in 1991, setting aside a technical career for pastoral service.

His ministry began in the Western Region, where he served as district overseer for Daboase from 1991 to 1995, before a transfer to Agona Nsaba in the Central Region, where he was ordained a pastor in 1996 and served until 1999. Between 1999 and 2005 he undertook missionary work in South Africa, after which he was recalled and stationed at East Legon in Accra as a district pastor until 2008. This steady progression through the ranks gave him deep pastoral and administrative experience across diverse settings.

In May 2018, at the 43rd General Council Meeting of The Church of Pentecost, Nyamekye was elected the sixth Chairman of the church, and in May 2023 he was re-elected to serve a further five-year term. As chairman he has promoted the church's vision of possessing the nations and transforming society through its members, an agenda that emphasises character, civic responsibility and practical Christianity alongside evangelism. He holds a doctorate in theology from the South African Theological Seminary.

Beyond his own denomination, Nyamekye has held wider leadership roles, serving as President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council and Chairman of the Ghana Evangelism Committee, and as Chancellor of Pentecost University. His influence extends into national conversations on morality, development and governance, and he is regarded as one of Ghana's foremost religious voices. He continues to guide The Church of Pentecost as it grows both at home and among its many congregations abroad.
