Fred Kwesi Agbenyo
Member of Parliament
About Fred Kwesi Agbenyo
Fred Kwesi Agbenyo is a Ghanaian politician born on 2 February 1976 who serves as the Member of Parliament for the Guan constituency in the Oti Region. A member of the National Democratic Congress elected in December 2024, he assumed office on 7 January 2025 as the representative of one of the Oti Region's northernmost constituencies, an area that covers the Nkonya Traditional Area and communities across the Guan ethnic homeland straddling the Oti Region's boundary with the Eastern Region.
Education
Agbenyo completed his basic education at EP Junior High School, where he obtained his Basic Education Certificate Examination in 1991. He went on to Nkonya Senior High School, where he earned his West African Senior School Certificate Examination in 1994. His educational background reflects roots in the Nkonya community, one of the principal towns within the constituency he now represents, giving him a personal familiarity with the community institutions that have shaped life in the Guan area.
2024 election and parliamentary career
He contested the Guan constituency in the December 2024 general election and won with 9,963 votes, defeating the NPP's Michael Osibo who received 2,998 votes and the National Democratic Party's Madam Sussie Sekor who received 82 votes. His decisive majority of nearly 7,000 votes reflected the strength of NDC support in a constituency that the party has consistently dominated, partly because the Guan constituency's communities have been part of the NDC's Volta Region base and the expansion of the Oti Region in 2019 did not fundamentally alter the local political dynamics. The Guan constituency covers a relatively small electorate by national standards, but the communities within it have distinctive cultural and historical identities rooted in the Nkonya and related groups whose presence in the Oti Region predates the region's creation.
Political Legacy
Fred Kwesi Agbenyo's parliamentary mandate from a constituency where he attended school and built his community networks reflects an authentic local connection that his dominant 2024 majority confirms. His entry into the Ninth Parliament as a first-term NDC MP adds the Guan constituency's voice to the party's strong Oti Region representation.
