Freda Prempeh

Freda Akosua Prempeh is a public relations professional who represented Tano North in the Ahafo Region for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for three terms, from 2013 to 2025, and served in the Akufo-Addo government. She was born in Accra on 23 January 1966, into the Ashanti royal family, and comes from Duayaw Nkwanta.

Early career

She studied public relations at the Ghana Institute of Journalism, marketing with the Chartered Institute of Marketing and business at the University of Ghana, and later earned a master's from the University of Leicester and a doctorate in business administration. She worked for the Prisons Service for ten years and managed the Point Four Hotel in Sunyani. From 2002 she was assembly member for Lakoo in La-Dadekotopon, and she sat on the National Media Commission from 2005 to 2008.

Parliament and government

She won Tano North in 2012 and held it in 2016 and 2020. President Akufo-Addo made her Deputy Minister for Works and Housing in 2017, and she later became Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, leaving the post in February 2024. She chaired the committee that organised the 2018 Women's Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana. In 2024 she lost the NPP primary to Gideon Boako, who holds the seat today. She is married with a son.
