Fritz Baffour

Fritz Baffour is a television producer, journalist and entertainer who was Minister for Information under President Mills and represented Ablekuma South in Accra for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from 2009 to 2017. He was born in Korle Gonno on 11 March 1952.

A famous father

His father, R.P. Baffour, was one of Ghana's first mechanical engineers and the first Ghanaian Vice-Chancellor of KNUST; his mother was a midwife. He attended Prempeh College and Kumasi Technology Secondary School, then City of Bath College and Bristol Polytechnic in England, and later took a master's in communication studies at the University of Leicester.

Television

Baffour worked as a producer and director at Ghana Television and for broadcasters in Liberia, Nigeria, Britain and the United States, and was a media consultant to the Rawlings government. He is also well known as a comedian and entertainer.

Politics

A member of the NDC from its founding in 1991, he won Ablekuma South in 2008 and was appointed Minister for Information by President Mills. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije of the NDC holds the seat today.
